ReadMitra ("we", "our", "us") operates a peer-to-peer book sharing platform in India. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information in compliance with applicable Indian laws including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and related rules.

1. Information We Collect

• Authentication Information: Name, email address, and profile picture received through Google Sign-In authentication, subject to your Google account permissions.
• Profile Information: Additional profile details you choose to provide within ReadMitra.
• Location Data: Approximate location data used to display nearby book listings and improve discovery.
• User Content: Book listings, transaction requests, ratings, and other content submitted through the app.
• Transaction Activity: Borrowing, lending, giveaway, handover, return, and completion status information.
• Device and Usage Data: App activity, diagnostic logs, crash reports, and technical performance information, where applicable, to improve reliability and functionality.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To enable peer-to-peer book sharing
• To display relevant nearby listings
• To improve app performance and user experience
• To maintain safety and prevent misuse

3. Authentication via Google Sign-In

ReadMitra allows users to authenticate using Google Sign-In. When you sign in through Google, we may receive limited profile information such as your name, email address, and profile picture, subject to your Google account permissions.

This information is used solely for account authentication, profile creation, and enabling access to app features. ReadMitra does not access, store, or process your Google account password.

Google Sign-In is governed by Google's own privacy and security practices.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data based on your consent and for providing our services. By using the app, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be shared:

• Between users (e.g., contact details after request acceptance)
• With service providers (hosting, analytics, etc.)
• When required by law or legal process

6. Communication Between Users

Users may communicate through third-party apps such as WhatsApp after a request is accepted. These communications occur outside ReadMitra and are not monitored or controlled by us.

7. Data Retention

We retain user data for as long as an account remains active or as required for legitimate operational and legal purposes. Users may deactivate their account directly within the ReadMitra app. Upon deactivation, the account is disabled, the profile and associated book listings are removed from public visibility, and the user can no longer access the platform unless the account is reactivated. Certain transactional and system records may be retained where necessary to maintain service integrity, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations.

8. Data Security

We implement reasonable security practices as per Indian IT rules. However, no system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. User Rights

You may:

• Access or update your data
• Request account deletion
• Withdraw consent (may impact app usage)

10. Children's Privacy

The app is not intended for children under 18 without parental supervision.

11. International Data Transfer

Your data may be processed on servers outside India with appropriate safeguards.
